Crochet Basics : instructions and video tutorial to make slip stitch (sl st)

Introduction

Slip stitches are small, almost invisible stitches, used to assemble two pieces or

motifs, to strengthen edges, to close a ring when working in circle for round crochet or to work unnoticeably to get to a specific place on the piece without having to cut the yarn. They are also a part of more complex stitches.

Steps to make the slip stitch

Memorizing the number of steps necessary to make each stitch may work as a strategy to remember and differentiate each of them. To make the slip stitch you have to go through three steps:

Step 1 : Inserting the hook into the next stitch on the chain (or into the part of the work indicated on directions)
Step 2: Placing the yarn over the hook (yoh)
Step 3 : Drawing the yarn both through the work and the loop on the hook in one single movement
