1. Introduction
Square knot is one of the most popular knots used in macramé. It’s used all alone by itself or as part of more complex projects. We can find it in jewellery projects, in plant hanger’s foundations, in bags’ handles, etc. It’s made by alternating two opposite half knots (one starting from left to right and the other from right to left or the other way around). We can start it from the right or the left as we wish (for our photo-guide and demo, we started from left to right). Sailors know it as the Reef knot.

5. Observations
We looked for French and English abbreviations for macramé knots, but we didn’t find any. Perhaps there is no custom of using abbreviations for macramé on these languages. Our research led us to no conclusion on this matter. So, if you happen to know something about this issue, please share it with us.
