Crochet Basics : instructions and video tutorial to make double crochet (dc)

Introduction

After slip stitch, double crochet is the shortest of crochet basic stitches. But unlike slip stitch which is almost unnoticeable and is mostly used to finish the work or as a part of more complex stitches, double crochet has some height and can be used by itself to weave a dense and opaque pattern. It is also used as part of more complex stitches.

Steps to make double crochet – photo guide

To make the double crochet you have to go through five steps:

Step 1 : Inserting the hook into the next stitch on the chain (or into the part of the work indicated on directions)

Step 2: Placing the yarn over the hook (yoh)

Step 3 : Pulling a loop through the chain into the hook, so you’ll have two loops there

Step 4: Placing yarn over the hook (yoh) once more

Step 5 : Drawing the yarn through both loops on the hook
