1. Introduction

Overhand knot is a very common knot and the simplest one in macramé. It’s used to finish projects or for decorative purposes like creating patterns or playing the role of beads. It can be done with one single cord or multiple ones as we are showing below.

Steps

Overhand knot with one cord 

Overhand knot with multiple cords

Start by making a loop crossing the cord over itself as shown on photo 1. 

Start by making a loop crossing all the cords as a whole over themselves as shown on photo 3.

Then slip the end of the cord inside that loop and pull it to tighten the knot as shown on photo 2.

Then slip the ends of the cords inside that loop and pull them all together to tighten the knot as shown on photo 4.

5. Observations

We looked for French and English abbreviations for macramé knots, but we didn’t find any. Perhaps there is no custom of using abbreviations for macramé on these languages. Our research led us to no conclusion on this matter. So, if you happen to know something about this issue, please share it with us.

    Oi Lady Julia gostei das ilustrações de alguns dos nós de macramê do seu site. Você disse que já procurou por abreviaturas em Inglês para os nós de macramé e não encontrou, não foi? Eu tenho revistas de macramê que adquiri nos Estados Unidos e elas têm as abreviaturas de alguns nós.
